Chloramine (made from chlorine, ammonia and water) is often used as a mild disinfectant to treat drinking water, but a new study indicates it can react with various organic and inorganic compounds in the water and form a previously undetected byproduct. The toxicity of this byproduct remains unknown, however it shares "concerning" similarities with other toxic molecules.
